Fat Lava Ceramics

'Fat Lava' is the name given to a style of West German ceramics produced during the 1960s and 1970s particularly from the factories of Carstens, Scheurich, Jopeko, Bay and Ubelacker. The genre gets its name from the especially thick and textured glaze and how it is applied resembling geological lava flows. Glaze colours were bright and exuberant reflecting the pop-culture that was synonymous of the period.
