Serge Chermayeff

Serge Chermayeff (1900-1996) was born in Russia but studied in England and from 1924-1939 he pioneered the Modernist attitudes through his design and architecture. During the 1930s he worked with architect Erich Mendelson (1887-1953) to design the iconic building, the De La Warr Pavilion, on the south coast of Britain at Bexhill and became the first designer to introduce tubular steel in furniture manufacture through the company PEL.
