Orrefors Glass

Orrefors glassworks were founded in 1898 in Sweden and from 1914 started to produce decorative crystal products which attracted such artists to work for them as Simon Gate (1883-1945), Edward Hald (1883-1980) who studied with Matisse and Sven Palmqvist (1906-1984). In the Paris Exhibition of 1925 Orrefors and their artists were awarded the prestigious Grand Prix medal. It was from this exhibition that the term 'Art Deco' derived.
