Charles Horner

Founder of the Halifax silver business in the 1860s Charles Horner senior (1837-1896) was responsible for the invention of the 'Dorcas' thimble, patented in 1884. His two sons expanded the business in 1905 and were very successful in manufacturing fashionable silver and enamel jewellery designs in the Art Nouveau and Secessionist styles from 1895 to after the first World war.
