Liberty & Co.

Liberty & Co. of Regent Street London was founded in 1875 by Arthur Lasenby Liberty (1843-1917), his store initally selling exotic fabrics, objects d'art and antiques from the Far East and Japan. Christopher Dresser (1834-1904), Archibald Knox (1864-1933), Jessie M. King (1875-1949), Rex Silver (1879-1965) and Oliver Baker (1856-1939) were some of the many British designers that Arthur Liberty, a man of great vision and imagination, forged strong relationships with and commissioned to design for the company. Archibald Knox was the most successful with his designs for Liberty & Co. producing a range of silver designs for the 'Cymric' range and designs for the 'Tudric' range in pewter.
