Walter Schnackenberg

Walter Schnackenberg (1880-1961) was a skilled draughtsman and painter, gaining his reputation when he drew for the celebrated magazines 'Jugend' and 'Simplizissimus' in Germany where his themes were the theatre and the comic muse. Acknowledged as a talented designer for stage scenery and costumes he combined the fluid lines of Art Nouveau with avant-garde Expressionism and was acclaimed as 'the Toulouse-Lautrec of Munich' in the 1920s.
